Month: September 2007

My head is full of goo…

It must be fall… My head feels like its about to explode and even the hot pepper sammich I just ate didn’t make my nose run much… ennnnnnngh… I hope this is allergies and not the start of the sniffle season.

Finally got my new Apple Keyboard

w00t! I ordered it back on August 20th and just got it Monday. I didn’t think I’d like it the first day I was using it, but its definitely grown on me. Everyone who comes in is really envious of it too, which makes it […]

So apparently even hardware can be afraid of the dark…

Funny thing… I’m sitting in my office trying to get a rather irritating Dell printer back online with the print server, when out of the blue I started getting emails from my Nagios server.

Subject: ** PROBLEM alert – websensor/Illumination is CRITICAL **

***** Nagios 2.9 *****

Notification Type: PROBLEM

Service: Illumination
Host: websensor
Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
State: CRITICAL

Date/Time: Fri Sept 21 09:11:45 EDT 2007

Additional Info:

CRITICAL ( 1 or 700 ) Illumination: 0.4

================

Apparently, the websensor got scared of the dark and knew we were here and wanted to be comforted. 😉
I went into the server room and turned on the light and in thanks it sent me the following email:

Subject: ** RECOVERY alert – websensor/Illumination is OK **

***** Nagios 2.9 *****

Notification Type: RECOVERY

Service: Illumination
Host: websensor
Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
State: OK

Date/Time: Fri Sept 21 09:41:45 EDT 2007

Additional Info:

OK Illumination: 42.7
===================

I’m glad to know it now feels safe. 😀

You may think that this is just because of a rule that once it hits a certain level of illumination it sends out an email. Guess what, the websensor sends data to Nagios 24×7 and alerts are set to send all the time as well. I’ve only gotten illumination warnings while someone is in the building and can turn on the light. Though once a long time ago on a Sunday when there was a big thunderstorm I do remember getting a few. Just goes to show, hardware gets scared too. 😉

Sleepy Afternoon

Ate too much at lunch This day seems like it won’t end Sleepy coding bad

Yarr! Today be the day! It’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

My pirate name is:

Captain Bess Bonney

Even though there’s no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you’re the one in charge. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate’s life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!
